What are you grieving?

There is so much to mourn right now—both collectively and personally—and it can seem literally impossible to try to feel and process it all. Maybe there’s even a fear that if you try to contend with your grief, you’ll get stuck in it, unable to get out of those heavy feelings.

But what do you do with your grief in the meantime?

Maybe the impulse is to keep your grief at an arm’s distance, to not let it get too close to you. Maybe it’s to compartmentalize it, to wait for the right time to properly deal with grief when conditions change or things feel easier.

Or maybe you’d rather intellectualize grief and process each of its five stages with your mind.

If your body could have a say, how would it want to grieve? If you were to release some grief from your body, what joy would that create space for?

During this immersive two-hour workshop, you’ll be with the textures, sensations, and needs of your grief, letting the wisdom of your body guide the pace and depth of your exploration. You’ll do body-based exercises that will help you release collected/collective sadness so you can remember the embodied joy that is your birthright.

I’ll guide us through this grief/joy journey using movement, breathwork, senses-based practices, writing exercises, and community witnessing. All of this will be done in a gentle and safe space.

What you don’t grieve ends up doing a disservice to all that you want to feel—aliveness, pleasure, and joy.

Grieve Into Joy will help you be with and release your sadness so you can access more delight and aliveness.

Grieve Into Joy will help you release your grief somatically and reconnect you to the joy + resilience of your body.

Meet your teacher

My name is Ev’Yan. I’m a somatic practitioner and educator, and for the last 15 years, I’ve guided people into making space in their bodies to feel what seems unfeelable.

But my work isn’t just about feeling what’s hard. It’s also about feeling what’s good. It’s about remembering the aliveness, pleasure, and resilience we contain. It’s about tapping into joy as an act of resistance. We deepen our capacity to feel good by feeling everything—including our grief.

After experiencing a lot of loss recently, I know how hard it can be to reckon with grief. It’s overwhelming, intimidating, even a little scary. I also know that we can’t heal what we don’t feel.

One of my favorite poems is by Kahlil Gibran, who said, “The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.” I’m excited to create a space for you to meet your grief so you can access more of your joy.

FAQs

  • We’ll be exploring body- and senses-based practices to conjure grief as well as joy. The practices will range from stimulating to slow and gentle, and you’ll be encouraged to engage with them based on your personal capacity and ability.

That said, grief work can be intense and it’s typical for things to come up that might be uncomfortable for you. I ask that you please prepare for that when you arrive.

  • I do! Send me an email at evyan@evyanwhitney.com and I’ll get you set up.

  • Yes! Everyone who registers will get the recording and aftercare resources a couple of days after the live workshop ends. If you want to attend but can’t make it live, sign up anyway.

  • I hear you. Grief work is hard work.

But the key is to honor what’s alive in us (the grief), but not override our capacity. As a facilitator, I’ll help us all find that balance together. I also ask that you demonstrate self-responsiveness by knowing your needs, capacity, and hard limits for doing this work. We’ll define those together before we get started. We’ll also do some joy/pleasure work to help us ground.

If you’re someone who feels like grief has been collecting in your body, this workshop will bring gentle exploration to what you’re holding and how it wants to be released from you. If any of that sounds daunting or scary, don’t worry. We’ll go slow and you’ll be encouraged to check in with yourself throughout.

Let yourself finally feel + process your grief so you can access the joy in your body.
